Name Numerology Calculator

Turn your full name into three Pythagorean numbers: expression, soul urge and personality.

Calculated in your browser. What you type never leaves this page.

Three Numbers From One Name

Name numerology assigns each letter a number from 1 to 9 and adds them up. Three totals matter. The expression number uses every letter and describes what you are here to do. The soul urge number uses only the vowels and describes what you want underneath. The personality number uses only the consonants and describes how others tend to see you.

The Letter Chart

The Pythagorean chart counts through the alphabet in rows of nine: A, J and S are 1; B, K and T are 2; C, L and U are 3; D, M and V are 4; E, N and W are 5; F, O and X are 6; G, P and Y are 7; H, Q and Z are 8; I and R are 9. Each total is then reduced by adding its digits until it reaches a single digit, keeping 11, 22 and 33 as master numbers.

Use the name you are known by in full, or use your birth name if you want the traditional reading. Numerologists disagree about this, and the tool lets you try both. Accents are stripped, so "José" is counted as "Jose."

A Note on Vowels and the Letter Y

Vowels are A, E, I, O and U. The letter Y is ambiguous: some systems count it as a vowel when it sounds like one (as in "Lynn") and as a consonant otherwise. Here it is always a consonant, which keeps the calculation consistent and easy to check by hand. If your name contains a vowel-sounding Y, your soul urge and personality numbers may differ slightly from a system that treats it differently.

As with all numerology, the goal is reflection. The numbers are a mirror, not a verdict, and a name is not a destiny.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which name should I enter? Try your full birth name first, then the name you use, and compare. Are middle names included? Yes, traditionally every name on the birth certificate counts. Why do my numbers change if I shorten my name? Because each letter adds its value, so a nickname has a different total. That is also why the method is best taken as a reflective game.
