What a Life Path Number Is
In numerology, the life path number is the main number derived from your date of birth. It is meant to describe the kind of road you are on: your natural strengths, recurring lessons and the themes that tend to come up. Numerology is a symbolic system, not a science, and its value is as a structured way to reflect on yourself.
How It Is Calculated
The method reduces each part of the date to a single digit, then adds the three results and reduces again. For example, for 14 July 1990: the month 7 stays 7; the day 14 becomes 1 + 4 = 5; the year 1990 becomes 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1. Adding 7 + 5 + 1 gives 13, which reduces to 1 + 3 = 4. That person's life path number is 4.
The exceptions are the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. If you reach one of them at any step, you keep it instead of reducing. Some practitioners read a master number alongside its reduced form (2, 4 or 6), and the tool shows both so you can see the root too.
Reading Your Result
Each number comes with a short portrait, a gift and a watch-out. Treat the gift as something you may naturally lean on and the watch-out as something worth noticing in yourself. You do not have to fit all of it. People usually recognize a few lines and shrug at others, and that reaction is itself informative.
The "Pythagorean" system, named after the Greek philosopher though it was developed much later, is the most widely used in the West. Other systems, including Chaldean numerology, use different methods and can give different answers, which is worth remembering before taking any one number too seriously.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my result different on another site? Different sites reduce the date in different orders or ignore master numbers; the tool here reduces the month, day and year separately and keeps 11, 22 and 33. Does the birth time matter? No, only the date. Can my life path number change? No, it is fixed by your birth date, although some numerologists also use a personal year number that changes annually.
